Joshua Tree National Park is a big state park in southeastern California, east of Los Angeles, near Palm Springs. It is named for the Joshua trees (Yucca brevifolia) native to the Mojave Desert.

Originally declared a national monument in 1936, Joshua Tree was re-designated as a national park in 1994. The park encompasses over 1,200 square miles, making it slightly larger than the state of Rhode Island. Joshua Tree is a very popular place to take photos of the Milky Way and rock climbing, which was what we did.
